Emma Watson speaks during The Empire State Building lighting in honor of “HeForShe Magenta for International Women’s Day” in New York City.

We passed this by because we thought it was dull.

And to be fair, it isn’t exactly high on the attention-seeking style scale. If anything, it looks very 21stC Jackie Kennedy to us. First Lady style, rather than Movie Star style. But when you think about it, that makes a very savvy choice for an appearance like this one. She and her team really nailed it in terms of appropriateness.

The dress is a bit too “folded napkin” to our eyes and the hem length a bit awkward, but we respect her for choosing a simple yet photogenic look that doesn’t fight with the occasion or demand that you look at her. And yet, we kept coming back to look at her. That’s good style.
