Okay, maybe it was too obvious a joke to make:

But can you really blame us? It was right there, just waiting for us to pick it up.

Anyway, let’s break this down.

It’s … just okay, to be honest. It’s a semi-sheer black gown with a plunging neckline. That description could apply to hundreds of other gowns worn on the red carpet in the last six months. That’s not a crime, but it is a little disappointing coming from her, since her schtick is usually to be as unusual as she can get away with. Granted, the cape does help take it somewhere interesting. We think it may have been a mistake for her to take it off for pictures. It robs the look of the only thing that sets it apart.

That tight little top knot does nothing for her here.

Maybe Rooney decided to go low-key because Kate picked out a fairly showy look and didn’t want to compete with her. We have to admit, they do look pretty good side-by-side. This is interesting, but we hesitate to say we love it. The color’s kind of terrible and we think there may be one too many elements what with the gold choker and the ruching and the black bands. It doesn’t feel very unified as a design; more like a collection of random elements. Still, it’s probably one of the most interesting things we’ve ever seen her wear and they make for an eye-catching pair.
