“Spotlight” actress Rachel McAdams attends the 88th Annual Academy Awards nominee luncheon in Beverly Hills, California.
Are we nuts to love this?
Look, before you jump all over us, we acknowledge that this look has a host of problems, from the gigantic “jewels” of the trim to the peachy color scheme and the overall twee-ness of it. Don’t even get us started on the neckbow or the 1965 bridesmaid shoes. It’s entirely true that we would almost certainly be ripping this to shreds if a whole different kind of celebugal was wearing it. But Rachel has always had a huge style problem, as far as we’re concerned; one that has only become more pronounced as she’s had to go on the Oscar nominee promotional tour. Her ensembles tend not to have any personality whatsoever. If you asked us to name off the top of our heads a really memorable Rachel McAdams look, we couldn’t.
But this, darlings. This is LOADED with personality. And to be honest, it does come up to the border of looking cute, even with the myriad problematic design choices. If you put a little bubble cap on her head, it would totally be a “Sixties Italian Stewardess” look. And isn’t that fabulous? Just the fact that you can reasonably describe a Rachel McAdams red carpet look that way? If you’d asked us to describe any of her prior looks, we’d be stuck after getting the word “pretty” out.
Have you ever seen her beaming and positively glowing like that on the red carpet? We rest our case.
