“Joy” actress Jennifer Lawrence attends the 88th Annual Academy Awards at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
Behold, the “I”m not going to win tonight” Oscars dress:
Not that she’s slumming it here. It’s just that this gives the distinct impression of being chosen with the idea that she wouldn’t be splashed all over the media the next morning holding up her latest trophy. It lacks the drama an expected winner usually goes for. It’s pretty enough, but it’s basically just another sheer black lace gown; something we’ve seen so much of in the past few years that it seems to have finally gone out of style for the red carpet. After all, this is the only example of this look on a major player last night.
The hair and face are pretty, but the jewelry is so subtle as to appear non-existent. It’s not a bad look, but it’s doing nothing for us. More importantly, it’s doing little for her. “Perfunctory” is the word. “Required” is another one. Basically, everything about this look says “We good?”
But this was not the most glaring example of the “I’m not going to win tonight” dress. That one’s coming up.
