Man, these silly Gucci dresses are going to be the death of us.
Because on the one hand, that is a whole hell of a lot of dress to ask one woman to pull off. Not in the literal sense, since this is no more voluminous than a lot of red carpet gownery. No, we mean it’s a lot of dress from a design perspective. Or even an aesthetic one. Or hell, just plain old common sense will tell you that none of these elements really go together all that well. Any one of them (the bird, the flowers, the bow) would have been fine, but we don’t even think two of them should be paired in the same design. And when you add a pink shirred bodice to the mix, along with a skirt that looks like it was stored in a pot of coffee overnight, you’re talking about a dress with so many design elements that we fear it may cause migraines if we stare at it too long.
On the other hand, the one consistent
bitch whine complaint critique we’ve made in almost ten years of red carpet commentary is that most celeb style choices are boring as hell. Remember a year ago when everyone was wearing LBDs on the RC? Remember a month ago when suddenly everyone was wearing winter white? Trust us, as the people charged by our government to keep the celebrity population in line on the red carpet, it gets a little difficult to come up with something to say about yet another funeral dress or Sunday church dress.
So basically we’re torn between “At least it’s not boring” and “God, that dress is ugly.”
