This look is greater than the sum of its parts – and it’s got a LOT of parts.

Personally, we could have done without all that lace and trim, but it really only bothers us when we choose to focus on it. Similarly, if we ponder the embroidery for too long, we’re likely to come to the conclusion that it’s a little gaudy. Also: the sleeve length bugs the hell out of us.

And yet … we LOVE this. Like, seriously love it; as in “This may be one of the best things Kiki’s ever worn” love it. We expect vigorous disagreement on this, as we’ve found that these Gucci embroidered dresses have only limited charms to a seeming majority of people, but we don’t care. Something about the cool creaminiess really suits her and something about her personality allows her to pull off a bunch of notions and super-heavy embroidery in a wry, sort of knowing way. She’s got a bit of a Chloe Sevigny-like ironic vibe to her style choices, except she’s not as likely to go weird as Chloe is.

Anyway, do you think we’re crazy for liking it? Go ahead, we can take it. We’ll just assume you’re not fabulous enough to understand.
