We’re sighing here, Johnny. That’s you, causing us to sigh, just so we’re clear.
Clearly, after his jingly-jangly ’90s-rocker style became something of a punchline, he appears to have scrambled wildly to divest himself of the scarves and little straps of leather and excess rings and oh, just all sorts of jingle-jangle and foofaraw. Our point is, he tried to edit his look, but he just didn’t take it anywhere. It’s this odd melange of ’90s rocker and tacky father-in-law. All he really did was cut down a bit on the accessorizing and start wearing cheap suits. Which is probably not fair to the suits, since they’re almost certainly anything but cheap, but you can slap on several thousand dollars’ worth of the finest Italian gay male tailoring and it’s going to look like a bouncer’s suit if you rip open the shirt to show off your multiple gold chains. This was so not the direction for him to go.
There is something to be said for adopting a mild “aging hipster” look here. A pair of slim cut pants, a shirt and vest, some prospector boots — basically, Joel Edgerton’s whole outfit the other day – sans hat, because that would just look irredeemably precious on Johnny. Anyway, that’s the direction he should be going in. But he’s too stuck in his ways – and stuck in his creepers – to even consider such a look, we’re afraid.
