Clearly, someone – perhaps a director friend of hers, or an acting coach – after seeing her rather hilariously refreshing disdain come through loud and clear ever since she’s been asked to poledance for her Oscar, took her aside and said “JJ?” Because in our heads, that would be the nickname we’d give her after we all became good friends; just as she would, in our heads, jokingly call us “T” and “Lo” in response, because we’d all be way too fabulous for extra vowels or syllables.

Anyway.

Said person, after saying her nickname, would then add, “Next time you’re on the red carpet – and let’s just go ahead and say every other time you find yourself on a red carpet from now until the day you die – use your acting skills to portray someone who, I don’t know … likes to be on the red carpet. Someone who even enjoys it, somehow. Why not try that? As an exercise. Y’know, to keep yourself sharp. Also, carry a clutch or find something to do with your hands besides hanging them out to dry in front of you.”

And thus:

“Hi! I’m someone who likes to be on the red carpet! Cock my hip! Tilt my head! I somehow enjo — Oh, fuck this. Did you guys get enough? I’m going in.”

Good job, JJ! You really nailed it. Your sewing-class dress? Not so much.
