Girl, That’s Not Your Dress: Nicole Kidman in Gucci at the SAG Awards 2016

These Gucci cartoon dresses are ridiculously hard to pull off and suddenly in the last month, everyone seems to want to try. The results have been uneven and like most tricky dresses, it all comes down to the wearer and the situation. While we can’t fault her for taking a crack at the latest red carpet trend, this dress absolutely doesn’t suit her at all. See, in order for this post-modern Disney princess dress to work, you really need someone who can take the whole Disney princess aesthetic and turn it on its head. You don’t put a dress like this on someone who already looks like a Disney princess. It’s just way too sickly-sweet on her. Put something like this on J Lo or Rihanna and it’ll sing an aria, but on Miss Nicole, it just makes a sad trombone sound. Girl, that’s just not your dress. Set it free on the wind to find its proper wearer.
