Some actors – and they’re almost always British – should just resign themselves early in their careers to the fact that they were born to wear certain period costuming and just go with it. Douglas, this is so clearly your sweet spot that you look eerily like a portrait painting that came to life and walked out of its frame. Even with the paper cup in your hand. Just go with it, we say. You can have a nice long career doing all sorts of period dramas for film and television. And a lot of them will win awards because those are the kinds of stories that win awards more often than any other. You might even win one! And you’ll probably get the chance to work with some titans of British acting who can teach you some things. Sure, it’s not as fun as being in a Star Wars movie or as potentially lucrative as being in a superhero franchise, but you’ll always look fabulous. And isn’t that what truly matters in this world?
