Cate Blanchett in Atelier Versace at the Costume Designers Guild Awards 2016

Cate Blanchett attends the 18th Costume Designers Guild Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Looks like, as a veteran of the awards season red carpet wars, Miss Cate wisely saved up one last stunner before the big night. Amateurs or newbies tend to spend the last ten days before the Oscars in some totally shitty frocks due to bad planning on their parts. But Miss Cate is clearly a red carpet girl scout: always prepared.

Neither Versace nor its slinky aesthetic (on display here) are the normal go-tos for Cate. It’s a little bit of an eyebrow-raiser to see her in something so body-con. But it sure as hell doesn’t look bad on her. This is pure “movie star” glamour and she looks great in it. If nothing else, she deserves tremendous kudos for demonstrating the proper way to stand in a dress slit to the hip: the same way you would stand in any other dress. Shoving one leg out to the side Angelina-style is tacky, as Cate clearly knows. Attalady.
