“Carol” actress Cate Blanchett attends the EE British Academy Film Awards 2016 at the Royal Opera House in London, England.
Girl, grab yourself a cup of coffee, because we’ve got a LOT of ground to cover today. First up: Miss Cate, doing that thing she does so well:
Very pretty. But are we totally wrong for thinking the runway look with the pair of jeans was more interesting? Obviously, we wouldn’t have expected her to wear jeans to the BAFTA awards, but the black skirt isn’t nearly as boldly eye-catching. It finishes the design in a way that makes it more formally appropriate, but otherwise, it does nothing for the look. Black would not have been our choice for a skirt color. You could have picked up any of the colors in the bodice and it would have looked more … cohesive or integrated somehow.
Still, she looks great. We’re quibbling about the dress, but this is the Blanchett, at the top of her game at the top of awards season. We should probably savor this moment. We’re getting a little spoiled from all the gowns and couture lately. Come April, we’ll be back to featureless black funeral dresses on the red carpet most likely.
Is it weird for us to say those earrings don’t quite flatter the shape of her face?
