BAFTAs 2016: Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

Posted on February 15, 2016

“The Danish Girl” actress Alicia Vikander attends the EE British Academy Film Awards 2016 at the Royal Opera House in London, England.

We did a little deep dive on Miss Alicia’s red carpet style on this week’s podcast, in an attempt to predict what she’d be wearing on Oscars night. We all know it’ll be a Louis Vuitton, but we noted that, although her style isn’t always easy to pin down, she tends to like textural pieces (and the mixing of textiles, including an admirable lack of fear when it comes to wearing leather on the red carpet) with a fair amount of embellishments and design details.

But even we were a little surprised at this one. Yes, it all falls exactly in line with her style preferences, but we wouldn’t have predicted a leather gown with Christmas tinsel on it. And yet, it really works for her. She’s one of the genetically blessed few who can make a full length leather gown seem light and chic instead of heavy and a collection of poor ideas. We do think the tinsel portion on the bottom of the skirt is problematic, but we can’t deny she’s working the rest of it quite well – and that’s not an easy look to work at all.
