“Orange is the New Black” actress Laverne Cox attends the 47th NAACP Image Awards Nominees’ Luncheon at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
She just gets better and better at this red carpet stuff, doesn’t she? It’s been a pleasure watching her blossom. And when we say “blossom” we at least partially mean “get access to much higher end items.” Hey, we’re only being truthful here. It’s not that you need to spend money to have true style, but in the highly false beauty pageant known as the world of the red carpet, access to better goods is a huge determinant of where you are in the food chain. It is not, however, a guarantee that you will look better just because you’re wearing something expensive. That’s really the part of “blossom” we mean as a compliment. She has wisely settled on chic elegance as her go-to style for red carpetry and we can’t co-sign that enough. Again, it’s not the be-all and end-all for real-world style but opting for simple, clean looks in colors that pop and look great on you is the quickest, shortest, easiest way to make yourself look good for the red carpet. Also a kickass makeup job and some drop-dead posing. She’s killing it on the latter, but the former is looking almost mask-like on her in this lighting. Still, she looks fabulous and we feel like we’re proudly watching her graduate from style school.
Of course now that we’ve said that, we’ve probably jinxed it and she’ll step out wearing some horrifying disaster next week. But for now, let us bask in her perfection. You WERQ that skirt, girl.
