“Vinyl” actress Olivia Wilde attends the ELLE’s 6th Annual Women in Television Dinner Presented by Hearts on Fire Diamonds and Olay at Sunset Tower in West Hollywood, California.
This may be a rebuke to the “Just throw a moto over any dress” school of style thinking.
On paper, this should work. The print has a punk-lite feel to it that theoretically could only help integrate the moto jacket into the ensemble. But the cut of the dress – especially the way the skirt just hangs off her and stops at mid-calf -doesn’t lend itself to a short, cropped jacket. In addition, as much as the print gives the look some edginess, it’s … well, not very pretty, is it? We suspect it would make a great t-shirt, but a whole dress of screaming faces is a little off-putting. We’ll give her credit for picking something so off-the-beaten-path for an event like this. And considering her upcoming late-seventies music industry drama series, we also have to give her props for injecting real rock-and-roll edge to her style lately. But this all sounds better on paper than it looks in real life.
