Sandra Bullock attends the People’s Choice Awards 2016 in Los Angeles, California.
Because A-listers don’t have to do the People’s Choice Awards red carpet if they don’t want to.
We feel duty-bound to not express too much dislike for this, because we’ve been urging her to loosen up a little from her sheath-dress-heavy style rut for some time now. It’s funny, though. She tends to do the exact same thing Jennifer Aniston does on the rare occasions when she tries to step away from her neutral colored sheaths: she goes for these oddly juvenile, girly looks that don’t suit her at all. The thing is, the sheaths work for Sandy and Jen because it suits their looks and personalities. There’s something simple and un-fussy about the style, which serves to show off how fit and shapely the wearer is and highlights her no-nonsense, laid-back persona. Plus it’s hard to get wrong. We totally understand why they both default to them. But when we say to step out of that rut, we don’t mean they should abandon the very reasons why those styles work for them. Skip the strapless sheaths now and then, sure, but you should probably stick to other types of unfussy styles that play up the wearer’s self-confidence and bearing. Fussy little lace party dresses shouldn’t be on the menu. It just doesn’t work.
