John Boyega in Versace at the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” LA Premiere

John Boyega attends the premiere of Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in Hollywood, California.

He’s been slacking a bit on the style efforts for the photo calls and fan events on this poledance, but we can’t say he didn’t bring it for the premiere. After all, it’s hard to argue with a man willing to wear a purple tuxedo.

It’s more comic-booky than sci-fi, but it’s colorfully eye-catching and mixes fun with chicness, making it a particularly fine choice for this event. As for the glove, we’re not feeling it. As we’ve said before, there’s a line separating “dressing as a tip of the hat to the genre or film” and “dressing in costume.” It gets away from style and into the realm of cosplay, which isn’t what we think the red carpet should be about.

On the other hand, it does make for a particularly notable choice on his part. We’ve been happily surmising that Daisy’s whites are somehow indicative of her Luke and/or Leia connections, but here comes John, sporting a particularly memorable fashion choice for the men in the Skywalker family. Spoiler? Or is he just feeling like a Michael Jackson tribute at the moment?
