We’re starting to fear these Star Wars stars are going to make hypocrites out of us. Long have we espoused the benefits of making red carpet choices appropriate to whatever event you’re attending, and if you’re an actress selling her movie, it’s not a bad idea to dress by tipping your hat to the genre or type of film being promoted. That doesn’t mean we think you should literally show up in costume, but rom-com premieres call for romantic, flirty fare, westerns call for retro, ruffled fare, and sci-fi pictures are practically begging for metallics and sparkle. We even wrote a chapter of our book (which STILL MAKES A GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT YES WE’RE WHORES) on this very topic.

But man, these Star Wars ladies have really taken it to heart, no? Despite years spent urging stars to do the very thing these stars are doing, there’s a part of us that wants to ask them to dial it back a bit. It’s great that everyone settled on a classic black-and-white theme for this promo tour, because it plays into the franchise’s simple good vs. evil theme and tips its hat to the films’ overriding aesthetic. But after ten days of this, we’re dying to see one of these ladies in a red dress, just to break up the monotony a bit.

Having said that, of course we think she looks spectacular here. Hair and makeup are gorgeous and her space princess gown is terrifically on point and fabulous. The skirt’s a little weird, but as we indicated, “weird” is one of the things on the menu for this tour. Just check Lupita’s last look for confirmation.

But ladies, we’re here to give you permission to wear something simple, classic and colorful if you want to. We’re all for the jedi/sith thing you’ve been working for this tour, but you shouldn’t feel locked into such restrictions.
