Pop Style Opinionfest: Robot Girls, Superheroines and Pink Ladies

Darlings, for this week’s kaffeeklatsch, we turned over a good portion of the discussion to Miss Rooney Mara and her shockingly consistent red carpet style, which we outline, describe and put in perspective. In short, she makes some very unusual choices for a young actress and sacrifices certain things normally considered sacrosanct while projecting an image that could be construed as a little disturbing. But lest you think we’re criticizing her, make no mistake: we love that robot girl.

In addition, we do another deep dive on TV musicals, spurred on by the release of the Grease Live! promo shots, of which we have even more to say. And then we take the final portion to muse about Jessica Jones in a way we can’t for our recaps; specifically the ways in which the show has completely upended the normal male power fantasy of the superhero genre and replaced it with a specifically female-oriented power fantasy.
