Julia Roberts in Givenchy at the “Secret in Their Eyes” Premiere

Posted on November 12, 2015

Julia Roberts attends the premiere of “Secret in Their Eyes” at the Hammer Museum in Westwood, California.

The “tuxedo jacket over a short dress” is pretty much Miss Julia’s signature look. It makes a certain amount of sense, given how much attention has been paid to her legs over the years. If you’ve got a couple long stems like that, it just makes sense to make them the centerpiece of your signature look. So it’s … interesting (to choose a word) how she’s evolved this look from “tuxedo jacket over a short dress” to …

“Tuxedo jacket over a short ugly dress.” Or maybe “Tuxedo jacket over a slip because who gives a fuck.”

This is awful, frankly. First, as per the uzh with her, the jacket is big and bulky, instead of slightly more fitted. Second, the dress has absolutely nothing to do with the jacket. She just threw the jacket over a totally random choice that doesn’t actually call for a jacket. You need a crisper, more tailored sort of dress to go under a tuxedo jacket; not some shapeless slip. Ad in the messed-up hair and the totally crazy-lady expression and this just looks like she chose an outfit from the pile on her closet floor ten minutes before leaving.
