“Mad Men” actress Kiernan Shipka attends the Valentino Spring 2016 show as part of Paris Fashion Week in Paris, France.
Adora-Chic. It’s a word now.
We just got finished complaining about the trend for pattern-mixing, but here’s a good example of it working well. All the colors in the top half can be found in the bottom half, which is a big reason why it works here. Other things in this dress’s favor: It’s not strictly pattern-mixing, it’s more of a cast of textile-mixing, pairing various laces with a floral. Also, the scale of the print in the skirt is tiny, which makes the more exuberant and larger-scale laces stand out more without seeming like they’re fighting with each other. Looking at, say, Jenna Coleman’s dress, the problem is more along the lines of the various textiles being too similar to each other in scale and color. In the case of that dress, the various textiles being paired together almost looks like a mistake, whereas here, it all looks and feels very deliberate and thought out.
It really is a lovely dress on her, but Kiernan is a trained driver on an enclosed track. Amateurs shouldn’t try this at home.
