J, you look kinda pissed here, so we’ll be brief and lightly complimentary in that beautifully backhanded way the gays perfected a millennia or so ago.

We have to admit, as people who are sometimes not as charmed by her as the rest of the world seems to be (and by that we don’t mean active dislike or anything, we just don’t feel the swoon), we find her at her most charming when she does these sidewalk sashays. First, because she so clearly hates them and second because there’s a certain… how do we say this? There’s a certain gawkiness inherent in her style choices that doesn’t translate all that well to the red carpet but looks adorably loopy on a sidewalk somewhere. For instance, we look at this getup and see a certain sort of charm to it, as if she were a character in a low budget rom com, but it’s also shapeless and not particularly flattering due to some questionable proportion choices. For the e.g.: the neckline’s very broad and very low and it’s combined with a high, barely defined waist, a skirt that manages to balloon and hang off her at the same time, a shapeless black jacket covering most of it, and a pair of tights and pointy-toed flats that tend to give her duck feet at first glance.

Now don’t start yelling yet. The tights and flats are very cute, but visually, they just don’t flatter when paired with that diaper skirt and shapeless jacket. Pair the legs with a much cuter dress and we’d have ourselves a look worth praising. Instead, what we have is a clear attempt at something that fails but manages to charm us at the same time.

Put it this way: we can’t help smiling and saying “Taylor Swift would rather die…”
