Ellen Page attends a screening of “Freeheld” during the 10th Rome Film Fest in Rome, Italy.
There’s nothing wrong with figuring out your personal style, boiling it down to its essence, and sticking with the look. This is something that Ellen clearly has done. Since coming out of the closet, she’s embraced her lack of a desire to wear pretty dresses in public and has embraced a slightly more butch look with a clear rocker vibe to it. It’s all good. These past few months, she’s never looked more stylish to us. But the problem with this kind of style is that there’s no where to go once you’ve locked yourself into this look. It’s been little more than all-black ensembles featuring pants and mens-style suit jackets straight down the line. It does look good on her and we wouldn’t really suggest changing a thing to make this look better, but we wish she had a wider range than this. Fine, you like skinny pants and mens-style jackets. Great. Is there anything else you like or are these the only three items available in your style repertoire? Obviously we’re not asking her to start wearing dresses if she doesn’t want to, but there are other cuts of pants out there. There are other types of shirts. There are other colors besides black. Someone needs to show her what a straight-leg pant and fitted jacket can do for her. Someone needs to say “How about a white shirt and red jacket for a change?”
It’s a cute look that suits her, but it’s not the only look available to her if she prefers pants and sportscoats. You can interpret those items in enough ways to keep her from going stale on the style front so quickly.
