Alicia-Vikander-The-Danish-Girl-Movie-Premiere-Venice-Film-Festival-Red-Carpet-Fashion-Louis-Vuitton-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (6)A Swedish movie star at a European film festival premiering a film about Danish people is pretty much the perfect time, place and person to break out this dress because it kind of looks like a Northern European folk costume of some sort.

It’s a LOT of dress, and we have no doubt that on most other wearers, we’d find a lot of it problematic, but she is definitely the right lady for it. Something about her looks and her poise really makes this highly unusual (for the red carpet, at least) dress really sing. You can tell she feels really pretty at the moment, which does tend to help sell a look. Our only quibbles: it’s a bit snug in the bodice, especially where it’s belted. Also: you can have the ruffled cuffs or the ruffled shoulders, but you can’t have both in the same dress.

Still, it’s a head-turner. You just don’t see many dresses like this at your average film premiere.
