We say this in that tone of voice where you gently want to tell someone who tried hard that they failed spectacularly:

Oh, girl. No.

Everything about this looks wrong to us. First off, we don’t know why any lady not getting married in the next few hours would want to wear a white lace gown in public. Second, those embroidered pink roses are bringing back multiple flashbacks of nineties-era couches we have known. Third, the raised hem and the plunging neckline in combination does not make for the greatest of proportions. Visually, she’s all hips and feet – and we can’t imagine anyone in the planning of this outfit had that in mind as the outcome.

Also: hers is a face that could do with a little color when getting made up. The nude lips are not her friend at all.

Now that’s more like it.

While we think the waist sits a skosh high on her we just can’t bring ourselves to say anything (else) critical about this dress. Continuing the Venice Film Festival trend of florals on black backgrounds, it’s a colorful, eye-catching and slightly unusual dress for the red carpet, as well as being striking and sophisticated. As we noted with the previous look, she’s a gal who could stand for a little color in her style (and we suspect she knows this because her red carpet style tends to embrace color in a way a lot of ladystars don’t) and this dress does the job for her. So much so that we don’t mind the clean face this time. The gorgeous earrings add the color her head needs and the chic little chignon helps set them off. It’s a beautifully styled look that does exactly what it was designed to do: turn heads.
