Lovely. Well done, Miss Dakota. If you’re going to wear a black dress on the red carpet, then at least make sure you wear an interesting one, we always (sometimes) say. It’s the right dress for her because we think it might look a little precious on a lot of other wearers.

We’ve always been puzzled by the super-plain hair she tends to favor, but now we’re thinking it’s deliberate. Or at least it works in her favor. When she keeps her hair and makeup very plain, she can wear really head-turning or interesting fashion. Despite the fact the hairstyle itself is so dowdy, that actually reflects a very chic and fashion-first point of view, which is unusual for the average ingenue. Most girls in her sitch would be opting for full-on princess looks or super-sexy wear, with the hair and makeup to go with it. From what we’ve seen of her, she’d rather wear interesting clothes than pull all the focus to her face. That makes her more interesting to us – although we have absolutely no idea whether she can act.

“Black Mass,” starring Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Kevin Bacon and Dakota Johnson, opens September 18th.
