Keri Russell in Zuhair Murad at the 2015 Television Critics Association Awards

On the one hand, this feels like a lot of dress for the TCA Awards. On the other hand, it feels strangely underdone and underwhelming.

It’s the head. It’s terrible. Or at least, terrible in relation to this dress. It’s a perfectly lovely head taken on its own terms. But we figure if you’re going to wear a partially sheer black gown with a plunging neckline, pool hair and daytime makeup are probably not the best choices to finish it off. She always strikes us having a “no bullshit” approach to her style and that’s fine. There are times and ways you can make a bluntly direct approach to style really work for you. Look at K Stew. She’s mastered that shit. But you still have to finish off a look with styling that’s appropriate for it, no matter how low your bullshit gauge is set. This needed more dramatic makeup – especially around the eyes – and a more polished hair style.
