Kate Mara in New York City

This is almost cute. Wait, no. That came out bitchy. This is cuter probably than the sum of its parts, put it that way.

That still sounds a little bitchy, doesn’t it? We can’t help it, darlings. It’s in our nature, it seems.

It’s not high-fashion or even a well styled look. It’s a bunch of totally random pieces that most people would find themselves wearing in your standard “running errands” setting. But the backpack and shoes are cute little touches, even if they don’t go together all that well, And, okay, yes: the addition of the little red purse makes this totally mystifying on the whole. But she can rock a basic denim jacket. In fact, we think the reason we’re responding somewhat positively to this look is that it really works as a way to set off the new boycut. And also because it’s almost exactly (sans the red purse) what her male co-stars have been wearing on official public appearance duties while she stood there in a dress. With a little bit of judicious styling applied to it (and some editing, of course) we think there’s no reason she couldn’t be wearing a version of this look while her co-stars stand or sit next to her wearing their t-shirts and sneakers.
