Yea or Nay: Gingham

Posted on June 25, 2015

Darlings, lately it seems like all of Hollywood is dressing like they’re going on a picnic. Gingham is apparently what all the stylists are pushing this season.

And like virtually all design elements or trends, there are good iterations and not-so-good ones. Let’s be really bitchy and tell these ladies which of them got it right and which of them got it wrong. Just scroll down and yell out YEA or NAY based on your first impressions.

Ready? Go.

Big ol YEA. She nailed this look to the wall and made it her bitch.

Vanessa Hudgens in Dolce&Gabbana

Also a YEA, although the fit in the bust is not so great and the accessorizing is bleh.

Another YEA here. Love the color and the neckline.

Reese Witherspoon in Draper James

Big ol’ NAY because the proportions don’t flatter her. Gingham, it seems, is for dresses and skirts.

NAY. It’s inoffensive. We’re not mad at it. But it’s dull and looks like a tablecloth.

YEA on the dress but NAY on the accessories. Ooooh, girl. You fucked this look up.

Lizzy Caplan in Lela Rose

HUGE YEA, as we said yesterday when we featured it. Still a no on the sandals, at least with a dress like this.

We’re gonna say NAY, but only because we don’t like the way she’s got it styles. The open neckline and too-long belt, not to mention the too-unbuttoned skirt all try to make a sweetly classic look edgy and sexy and really, you should just let gingham be gingham. If you want to get your rock and roll on, you best pick something else to wear.
