Oh, NICELY DONE, Sandy. BraVA, darling.
You had to have smiled when you got to the shoes. Tell us you didn’t.
We’ve long detected a certain seriousness in her red carpet style and we never felt it really described her personality, which is one of the things good style should do. She’s funny and self-deprecating in interviews and acceptance speeches, so her sucked-in-cheeks, capital-F Fashion approach to the RC always felt like a missed opportunity. We realize actresses – especially older ones – are under enormous pressure to look good at all times, which may be why she took such a rigid approach to things, but here’s a perfect example of looking chic while also looking like you’re having a little fun.
The big story here, aside from the shoes of course, is the silhouette, which is softer and more playful than the metallic sheaths she favors too often. Sure, it’s another black dress on a red carpet in the summer, but the splash of yellow and the general shape take it away from being too serious. And to keep the look from going too cartoony or too much like a marketing exercise (which it most surely is), she’s got those killa shades to chic things up.
Basically, it’s a perfect storm of fun + pretty + chic, which is more or less exactly the sweet spot she should be aiming for more often in her RC style.
