Although granted, that gown is a little goofy – as is so often the case with Stephane Rolland designs. But we’ll say this: they’re never boring. It may veer too close to drag in the skirt and too close to sci-fi costuming in the bodice, but that’s not a bad thing for a film festival red carpet. If you listened to our podcast this week, you heard a mini-rant about the Tonys red carpet and how it signals a depressing conformity taking over the world of celebufashion. In other words, we’ll take a thousand goofily dramatic gowns like this over any of the conformist LBDs that have been dominating the red carpet for the last few months. It’s gotten to the point where we’ll praise any head-turning dress, regardless of whether it’s chic or not.

Ladystars and stylists, we’re imploring you, resist the Anna Wintour-ization of the red carpet. We’re not here for tasteful, we’re here for glamorous attention-seeking. Take a page from the Bingbings of the world.
