In the future, when the history books are written, this will be looked back on as the Summer of the Side Cutout – and it will not be considered a glorious time in red carpetry.
We live in a world where grand tomes about red carpet trends are released every year by learned historians. Or at least we want to.
Anyway, just look at this poor girl trying to make this thing work for her:

That’s some mighty poor tailoring when you’ve got a tiny little starlet bulging out the sides of her dress like she just downed a gallon of water before stepping out of her limo.
We keep trying to mentally put panels where those cutouts are and y’know? They don’t improve the dress, unfortunately. We’re all for boldly graphic gowns and dramatic silhouettes on the red carpet, but this one really does cause the eye to go all over the place, looking for a place to focus on. As it is, it’s weirdly unbalanced; there’s way too much skirt and not nearly enough bodice.
And we don’t even know what to say about what’s going on with her head. That’s some mighty odd hair and makeup for a dress like this. It looks way to DIY for such a big budget movie premiere – and such a grandiose dress.
