People are always asking us to let them know ahead of time what shows we’ll be watching and potentially reviewing, so we’re going to start doing just that. We’re obedient that way.
This one’s a no-brainer for us, because Tom is a nerd – and worse, a nerd who needs to spew opinions. Since this one probably needs some explaining to the general public, we’re going to let Mr. Press Release have the floor. Also, there are pretty pictures to look at.
“Season one of MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL will premiere with thirteen (13) one-hour episodes on April 10, 2015 at 12:01 AM PT in all territories where Netflix is available.”
“Synopsis: Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.”
“Marvel’s Daredevil is one of the best known properties of the street level heroes and will be the the first of four epic live-action adventure series (Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Iron Fist, and Marvel’s Luke Cage, all leading up to the teaming of the main characters in Marvel’s The Defenders) that delves into the backstory of how Matt Murdock evolves into Daredevil.”
“Marvel’s Daredevil is a grounded, authentic, suspenseful and edgy action drama featuring a great cast that includes:
Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil
Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk
Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple
Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page
Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson
Vondie Curtis Hall as Ben Ulrich
Scott Glenn as Stick
Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna”
Thank you, Mr. Press Release.
This looks quite a bit darker than anything Marvel’s done before, in terms of properties developed for film and television. In fact, it looks quite a bit darker than any mainstream superhero adaptation that we can think of, including the Nolan Batman films. This is set not only in the same universe as the Avengers movies, but it’s the same world in which Agent Carter and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have operated. We think that may be fueling our curiosity about this series most of all; how they intend to make what looks like a very violent and dark story fit in the mostly brightly lit world called the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Also, Charlie Cox is hot and that’s a pretty damn amazing cast. And the end game, with a Defenders series down the line, is like nerdvana. We’ll be in our seats when the episodes drop and should have an initial review by the weekend. Fingers crossed, it’ll be a positive one.
