Gina Rodriguez in BCBGMAXAZRIA at the 2015 Garden Brunch

Have we mentioned recently our hatred of handkerchief hems? No? Then allow us to declare once again for the newcomers: You guys, we’ve always hated handkerchief hems.

But if there’s one thing nine years of fashion blogging have taught us, it’s that any item or element has the potential to look good if it’s deployed in the right way and on the right gal. In this case, so as to avoid putting any blame on Gina (who’s already quite aware this look ain’t working), we’re going to classify this one as a bad deployment.

Her body language tells the tale: “I don’t know how to pose because I’m not sure this looks good on me.” It’s not your fault, girl. It’s just not a very good design. The way the print runs is distracting and unflattering, and the way the skirt literally looks like someone tacked scarves onto the waist is just plain awful. No one could make this dress work.

Actually, come to think of it, that pose has a bit of a “Please God, let this not be transparent in pictures” feel to it as well.
