Patricia Arquette at the 2015 Noble Awards

Posted on March 02, 2015

Between the #askhermore campaign and the recent Fashion Police meltdown, there’s been a lot of chatter lately about how shallow the world of red carpet commentary is, to which we have two things to say in response:

1: Duh.

2: That’s why so many people love it, silly.

Also, this:

Attempts to layer meaning or nuance on top of what is only – and always has been – a promotional event with millions of dollars on the line is, frankly, a fool’s errand. The people who are here are here to look at pictures of celebrities all dressed up and to either express their love or their hate for their style choices. That’s what it’s about, whether the celebrities like it or not. If you want to promote yourself in millions of dollars of borrowed clothing, accessories, and jewelry, you can’t really demand to be treated like a Nobel prize winner; not in that venue.

Anyway, we’ll have more to say on this topic soon, but for now, we’re using it as an opener for Miss Patricia, who clearly doesn’t buy into the hype and doesn’t see the red carpet as a place for borrowed couture or even the services of a stylist.

BUT SWEET JESUS ON A BREADSTICK, WE WISH SHE WOULD.

Shallow? You betcha. But she looks like a cult leader.
