Jennifer Lopez in Marchesa Notte at “American Idol XIV” Finalist Party

Posted on March 12, 2015

Y’know, as bitchy red carpet commenters, you want to try and avoid going to the same reference well too many times. We’ve made far more than our share of Golden Girls or Sister Wife references when the outfit called for it, but we felt a little dirtier each time because we knew it was a joke as old as time. Or at least, as old as Golden Girls and cult member references.

Similarly, you want to try and avoid, when you see some sparkly, tiny dress with maybe some sheer or illusion netting, immediately going to the “Ice Dancer” jokes.

Dammit, Jenny.

What ELSE are we supposed to say here?

It’s funny, we’re always ragging on the stars for not getting their outfits fitted a little better and here’s J Lo, making us eat our words. Look at the vast difference between her look and the model’s.  She took a chic, pretty dress and turned into a costume. We’re all for divas in costumes, but this doesn’t even look all that good. Regardless of whether or not you have any thoughts on the propriety of a dress that short – and for the record, we don’t mind it – the proportions of the look are now way off. It simply doesn’t look right. If we’d never seen the look book picture, we’re pretty sure we’d have been able to tell that this was a drastically altered design.

And the strange part to us is the choice of designer. Why pick a Marchesa, a brand known for it’s over-the-top romanticism, and hack it up to make a cha-cha dress? Marchesa’s not the house you go to when you’re in the mood to air out your crotch.

And girl? Allow us both to flip open our church fans and tell you that is not your makeup.
