Let’s do a style check on Miss Julianne, as her Oscar poledance heats up. We sense an attempt to tone down her more … experimental impulses when it comes to style. And while we’ve always said simple and clean was the way to go with her, these two choices have us doubting.
It’s not a bad little dress at all. She can handle a red like this, but it would not have been our first choice for her. But we like the pleated peplum and the slightly tricky skirt. It’s the hair and the shoes that have us faux-weeping. The former looks raggedy and work-a-day, as if she was running errands. The latter simply don’t go with this dress at all. Julianne, we don’t know why you insist on wearing sandals and open-toed shoes with EVERYTHING, but we’re here to tell you, that’s not a good idea. Some outfits look better with a closed toe pump. This would be one of them. Also: a bracelet would’ve been nice.
Yikes. We’ll stipulate that everything above the neck looks fine; good, even. But this is one instance were going simple did not produce a chic effect. This top needs those sleeves. You take them off and turn it into a dress and it’s just a sack hanging off your neck. In fact, we’re just going to say it: a halter is not her friend. It doesn’t flatter her shoulders or her bust. Ironically, as tricky as the runway look is, we think she probably would’ve rocked it, thereby shutting us up about how she’s supposed to go simple and clean.
