We think as a celebrity who wants to be seen in more than one light, it’s smart of her not to turn to these sorts of culturally inspired dresses too often. People expect it too much of her (which can be somewhat condescending, since most Americans aren’t expected to wear folk costumes all the time) and it works against an ambitious celeb’s most important full-time job: convincing the public they remain perpetually fresh, modern and new. But this gets the job done by being only a spin on a folk styles rather than something literal. And if works beautifully for her because it’s practically impossible for a woman of her coloring to not make a brilliant green dress with gold embroidery sing to the heavens. Love the hair and jewelry, although we think she should’ve worn more gold. Not so much on the makeup. We get what she was going for, but it doesn’t photograph well. Still, this remains one of her best looks in a long time.
