Setting their show in that glorious example of rapidly fading Old New York, The St. Regis Hotel, Marchesa’s “opiate-hazed dreams”-inspired collection was a sultry, smokey, poppy-filled show full of sparkle and sex with a slightly Gatsby feel to it. Avoiding the cliches of orientalism and flappers, the collection manages to vaguely nod its head at its inspirations while maintaining a very modern, and surprisingly sexy feel. This isn’t the exuberant, over-the-top Marchesa you might remember, but a lazy, sexy, slower version with exactly the same amount of glamour.
