These pictures sent us on a scramble to find out more about this film simply because we couldn’t tell what era these clearly period clothes are supposed to represent.
Imagine our surprise when we found out it’s, as far as we know, not a period movie. We were all set to yell about how this was badly done 1940s clothing. Turns out it’s a bit more interesting than that. We can’t help but love any film or TV show that really establishes its own distinct style, regardless of whether the script, acting or directing is any good. These are such oddly interesting choices for a costume designer to make (especially her outfit) that we automatically want to know more about the film. This is a perfect example of the kind of thing Mad Men Costume Designer Janie Bryant does constantly; tying the characters together through color and pattern, subtly, so that you don’t notice it at first glance but have an immediate feeling that these two people are supposed to be together somehow.
We wonder if the whole film is this color and pattern-heavy.
