Anna Kendrick in Vionnet at the “The Last Five Years” LA Premiere

Posted on February 12, 2015

We’ve never seen eyes-to-eye with Anna on her style choices. That may come as a surprise to her, but it’s true. We’ve struggled with her. It seems to us that she either goes just slightly too twee or she tries to do something serious and falls flat. And it seems to us that we’re often the cheese that stands alone in this opinion. That’s okay. We can live with being the bitches. God knows it’s a burden we’ve happily shouldered plenty of times before.

So allow us to continue the tradition by pointing out that this looks like one of those “serious” attempts that falls flat:

Stipulation: Hair and makeup? Very pretty.

But the dress? It’s like something one wears to a prison dance. Those are some of the drabbest stripes we’ve ever seen.

And ladystars, do yourselves a favor. When a stylist pushes a wide plunging neckline on you, have the strength to say no. It’s a style that looks good on a single-digit percentage of the lady population. Even if you’ve got the chest for it, visually, it broadens both the shoulders and the waist, so you risk a lot by trying to make it work.
