Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on February 20, 2015

Darlings, it would have been impossible for us not to cover a party with a name like that. And isn’t it kind of awesome that a party for women, by women and specifically about women is a party where all the women showed up looking pretty damn fine? We’ll have quibbles, of course. Because we’re us. But it’s all said in the spirit of sisterhood, darlings!

Kerry Washington in Sophia Kah

This is odd in the way the orange strip makes your eye travel down and the bodice is a little bit overdone, but we like it for being striking and different. If she had to match the shoes, we’re glad she chose the green tones.

Carmen Ejogo in Pamella Roland

Dress: adorable. Shoes: not so much.

Rosario Dawson

She is so perfect for this kind of jumpsuit. Much more so than January Jones, that’s for sure. The face and hair look a bit on the underdone side, though.

Angela Bassett

We support any lady who wants to transition from “fierce” to “serious” as her career changes and she gets older, but we can’t help thinking there are better ways to render it than this. The thought of Angela Bassett in menswear gives us fashion tingles, but this is not the way to do it.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Narciso Rodriguez

We’re not even all that crazy about the dress, but we blurted out “Lovely!” when we saw the picture. It’s kind of hard not to blurt that out when you see her.

Viola Davis

To the extent that a pink satin body-con dress can work, this is working. But we wish she hadn’t chosen a pink satin body-con dress at all.

Nicole Beharie

 Low-key pretty.

Danai Gurira

 Drop dead gorgeous.

Zoe Saldana in Lanvin

It looks a bit like a repurposed bridesmaid dress. We could get behind it, because it actually looks pretty good on her (she can handle the volume), but those shoes are a needle scratch of a choice.
