Kristen Stewart in Chanel at the 2014 AFI FEST

Our first response was “How does Kristen Stewart manage to snag all the non-insane Chanel pieces before any other starlet gets to them?”

But upon reflection – because that’s what we do around here all day; reflect on the Big Questions – we think we started off looking at it wrong. It’s not that Kristen’s getting to the non-crazy Chanels first. It’s that she can make crazy fashion look non-crazy. It’s similar to – and of a piece with – her ability to wear ten pounds of makeup and never look overdone.

Not that this dress is crazy. The sheer yoke with the patent leather trim and the giant cuffs on the sleeves all take it pretty far away from being standard, though. We think if we saw this dress on a less accomplished dress wearer or someone to whom it was less suited, we’d probably be a lot more critical of its design, but it looks just right on Kristen.

Her hair remains fabulous. We like those shoes way more than we probably should.
