Jennifer Lawrence Gives You the Finger

Posted on October 27, 2014

Y’know, as a message that she would like to be left alone – because honestly, we’ll never accept any other reading – this pretty much fails. Mainly because we’re all, “You guys, look how cute Jennifer Lawrence looks here!”

Isn’t it funny how Jennifer Lawrence is styled better than we’ve seen her in who-knows-how-long while finding adorable ways to give the finger to the paps?

This is like that time Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield wandered the streets of New York holding up signs for the paps listing their favorite charities. Sure, it’s possible that it was well-intentioned. It may even be likely. But it was also attention-seeking as hell, there’s no way around it. When celebrities resort to creative, head-turning ways of telling the world to stop paying attention to them, it’s so obvious from the start that it’s going to backfire, making us more than a bit cynical about the whole deal. As we constantly and unceasingly remind the world at large, we wrote a whole damn wonderfully cynical book about it. Then again, celebs are often pretty clueless about their own attention-seeking behaviors and may not even recognize them since they live in a bubble of branding and public adulation.

We really must get back to playing Be Me or Do Me Bingo, by the way. When the hacked phone pics scandal broke we got a little skeeved by tabloid culture for a bit – and it was way too close to certain passages in the book to be funny – but we keep stumbling on stars acting out scenes from the book in other entertaining ways so often that we’re chomping at the bit to get back to it. Expect one or two this week.
