Red Carpet Pairs Division: Julianne Moore & Chloe Moretz in Dolce&Gabbana

Posted on October 04, 2013

As much as we love the casting of these two in the Carrie remake, we have to admit, what little footage we’ve seen makes it look like the whole point to the exercise was to just re-do the original with better special effects. Still, we have every reason to believe they’ll both give awesome performances (assuming the script isn’t terrible). We doubt we’ll run out to the theater to see it, but it’ll eventually land on our must-see (on the couch) list.

Julianne Moore honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with the support of Chloe Moretz. Julianne is wearing a Dolce&Gabbana dress paired with Givenchy shoes. Chloe is wearing a Dolce&Gabbana dress paired with Jimmy Choo shoes.

Gotta say, Mama wins this one hands down. Julianne’s actually gotten quite a bit better with her style this past year. We don’t know if she has a new stylist or if the one she had figured some things out, but she’s looking a lot more streamlined and less inclined to wear something clumsy or awkward. Not that long ago, she was kind of known for weird Frankendresses and clunky shoes that didn’t flatter her. Now she’s the picture of chic. How a natural redhead can work a yellow eludes us, but somehow she’s managing it. The white shoes really keep it looking modern. Our only quibble is that it’s a bit tight on her. Score: 9/10.

This is a surprising misstep from Miss Chloe, who tends to nail it more often than not. We assume she didn’t want to overshadow her co-star, but even so. You can play things down without resorting to a drab color and stiff upholstery fabric, hon. It’s a blah dress with a focus-pulling pair of shoes that don’t seem to go with it very well. Score: 6/10. Nothing’s so awful that we need to rant at her, but it’s definitely not good enough to warrant a higher score than that.

Combined Score: 7.5/10.  You get in that closet and pray over what you’ve done, Chloe.
