Is Nicole Kidman’s Dior Dress at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards Making a Sly Reference?

Posted on November 14, 2017

And now do our own words come back to take big bites out of our asses. Way to make us look bad, Nic.

You see, we’ve spend the better part of the last two years shrieking into the ether about how “dark whimsy” in the Disney Witch mode was the best possible direction to go for her public, promotional style choices. And sometimes, she listened. And when she did, we were almost always proven right.

Alas…

There’s an exception for everything.

Although we have to admit that we like this more than we’re letting on. We generally dislike tiered skirts, but we find this one to be quite pretty. The pink lining under the sheer black gives it some depth and interest – illustrating why we dislike nude or white linings. Colored linings can really make a look. And the harpy imagery is actually pretty fun and witty. It’s just that it belongs on a t-shirt. It literally looks like something tacked on to the dress at the last second. And because it’s so incongruous and such a strong image, it’s impossible to take your eyes away from it.

ON THE OTHER HAND, it’s quite possible the harpy image is Nicole’s way of silently and slyly stating that this is clearly the Year of The Pissed-Off Woman, in which case any critiques we have are null and void.
