Amy Adams Brings a Smidgen of Sass to the American Cinematheque Awards

Posted on November 14, 2017

We almost subjected this to an “IN or OUT” vote, but we realized we keep falling back on that because we don’t have the bloggernuts to tell it like it is with Miss Amy. She’s just so darn sweet and likable that all our harrumphing about her boring mermaid hair and her endless array of solid-color column gowns makes us look a little unkind – and you know how concerned we are with such things, darlings.

But we’re going to be firm and stand proudly on our assessments, which we will now declare for all to hear.

It’s … kind of okay.

We’re not without our quibbles, of course, but it’s at least a smidge unexpected and she isn’t sporting the Senior Portrait over-the-shoulder hair this time. Granted, the gown’s still a simple design in a solid color and a pony tail is almost as much of a fallback style for her as the mermaid hair. But it really is a lovely color, and while we tend not to love a design that only gives a gal one voluminous sleeve, it’s a bit different and unexpected. We also like the tone-on-tone effect of the applique, even if it does look a bit like craft store fake flowers.

Bottom line, we like-not-love it, mainly because it takes a good picture and has a little bit of personality to it.
