Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on October 19, 2017

A whole bunch of stylish famous women came out to pose for pictures, have a little nosh, and talk about women in filmaking, darlings. We featured a few of the attendees for spotlight posts, but now it’s time to let these ladies be on their way, fully assessed and judged by us. Join us, won’t you? In judging their clothes, we mean.

Cynthia Nixon

Mmm. The basic (and we do mean basic) shape is fine for her, but she doesn’t strike us as a “big ruffle running down the front” kind of gal.

Grace Gummer

Love the jacket, hate the jeans. We’re not as enraged by ripped jeans as some might get, but we do think they should be used sparingly on the red carpet.

Jennifer Morrison

Awkward and over-styled.

Kyra Sedgwick

Love the skirt and the pumps, not so in love with the sweater or the long necklace. A belt would have helped.

Natasha Lyonne

We would expect no different from her. In a way, you’ve gotta respect a lady who can show up at a Chanel-sponsored (and styled) event looking like this.

Rachel Weisz

The dress is standard Chanel, but the tights seem a little heavy for it.

Rebecca Hall

Girl, you had us until we got to the Bowie boots. Not that we don’t love a sparkly pair of Bowie boots, but they really don’t go with the rest of the outfit at all.

Zosia Mamet

We’re surprised to find ourselves admitting that we love this on her. It’s an overdone design and the shapes are vaguely awkward, but she’s absolutely the right woman for this look. Even the shoes, which would normally bug, seem just right here. Sometimes a weird outfit needs a weird girl to make it work.

Granted, that coat’s straight-up chic, but the rest of it takes a special gal.
