Maisie Williams Keeps Things Bold in Kenzo at the 2017 Q Awards

Posted on October 20, 2017

There’s a certain lifecycle to each week’s collection of red carpetry, darlings. You have to really be in the weeds to notice it, but generally speaking, all the good stuff gets posted in the first half of the week (thanks to the bundling of red carpet events over each weekend), with the subsequent entries getting progressively worse, until we all wind up, limping, exhausted and beaten, at Friday, aka The Day Where It All Goes to Hell. From our Monday morning commitment to easing you into the week with prettiness, which we have dubbed T Lo’s Happy, Gentle, Life-Affirming Hour of Pretty all the way up (or down) to the Friday Leftovers post. In other words, happy Friday. It’s clown clothes all the way down, from here on out.

Miss Maisie, that’s your cue.

We keep wanting to like this and finding that we just can’t. It’s not the basic idea or style that bugs. We can see how a striped pant/bandeau set could look cute on the right gal. But this particular stripe is a little too awning/circus tent. Plus certain of the design details don’t work for us; specifically, the flare of the pants (this would instantly be improved with a slim cut) and the ruffles and corseting in the top, which tend to cheapen it a bit. Plus it clearly needs a belt to finish it off.

We admit, it’s fun and it feels totally her in a lot of ways, but it’s not stylish or even all that flattering the way it’s presented. The just-got-out-of-the-pool hair isn’t helping, we’re afraid.
