Maggie Gyllenhaal Takes us Back to the Old Days at the American Ballet Theatre Gala

Posted on October 19, 2017

Lately we’re more on board with Miss Maggie’s style choice than not, but this look reminds us of the days when she used to frustrate us a whole lot more:

A return to classic Maggie: an overdesigned, too-formal, hard-to-wear, wrinkled gown paired with just-woke-up hair. Miss Lady, we cannot.

On paper, Monse would seem like a good fit for her sensibilities, but it’s a really hard brand to wear and it almost never photographs well. We think this dress might be interesting on another wearer, far away from the bright lights of cameras. But on Boho Maggie, it just looks a mess. Go back to the ’30s-inspired halter gowns, dear. This sort of thing is not friendly to you or to the red carpet.

Cute shoes, though.
